Best volumising mascaras!

Best volumising mascaras!

It’s fair to say that I’ve been a bit obsessed with mascara for the past few months.  I’d been a Diorshow fan for many years then got a bit bored of it so drifted to Bobbi Brown’s Smokey Eye Mascara which I really enjoyed but didn’t think was perfect for my very particular needs: big volume with a curl but not too clumpy! A ballsy lash that made a difference – some days mascara is all that I have time for – but still pretty natural looking and separated. But then my prayers were answered and a whole host of new launches came out of the woodwork and I am one happy bunny on the lashes front.  So, if you’re like me – pale, with uber fair, straight lashes that resist a curl – read on as I’ve found some corkers; and at different price points and levels of drama too.  So, for your viewing pleasure, here are the best volumizing mascaras on the market!

Maybelline Full N’ Soft $14.95

In my opinion Maybelline make the best mascaras in the drugstore and although not a new one, this has been a firm favourite and my everyday (most natural) mascara ever since I came across it in Priceline.  I love the thick wand which gives thick, full and soft lashes – so none of those spiky, brittle jobbies which drive me nuts – with the silky soft formula apparently due to the fact that their thickening formula is nourished with Vitamin E.  The cheapest pick of the bunch and a really solid performer!

Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara Blackest Black $21.95

Another Maybelline goodie – and this is a newish release – is their Total Temptation Mascara which I absolutely love! With another big, fluffy brush, it’s super black and quite a creamy whipped formula (from the coconut extract) which builds thickness and volume whilst also separating the lashes nicely.  It’s not for the feint hearted as if you build it too much it can look a wee bit clumpy; but that might just be me and my pale lashes and somebody who prefers voluminous lashes but not ones that are worthy of Priscilla Queen of the Desert!  I have backups of both of my Maybelline mascaras ready to go!

NARS Climax Mascara $35.00

This is the newest pick of the bunch (having hit Mecca’s shelves only a couple of weeks ago) and anybody who is in the least bit interested in makeup can’t have missed this launch; Nars do have a way with Marketing! As always with Nars, the packaging is stunning – this time it’s pillar box red and in a stunning, ribbed red tube – and the brush is again right up my alley. Similar to Total Temptation, it has a big, fluffy wand with a creamy, hydrating formula which allows you to build volume and craft a big, bold lash and curl that stays put. And I like that it gives me all that volume without any dreaded crispiness.  My only con with this one is that I do have some fall out; not smudging really but odd little flakes that I have to flick away. It doesn’t bother me hugely but is a consideration if you’re going to fork out $35 when there are options like Total Temptation that are $11 cheaper.

Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara $42.00

I wrote a review about this a month ago but thought that I’d give you a bit of an update now that the tube has dried out a little as that can often make a huge difference.  And it did! And I’m loving the slightly drier formulation.  This is a high impact superstar and the one I reach for when I want big lashes that are lifted and high octane to balance out a big eye look. Or as I did the other day when I want to do very little on the eyes but go for just big lashes and a bold lip.  This doesn’t flake or smudge, lasts all day and is at equally fab for a day in the office – think 1 or 2 coats – or at the pub!

So, these are my favourite mascaras for all the volume – are there any others that you recommend?
